This Privacy Policy applies to both the Ascenda website and the Ascenda mobile app (including iOS and Apple Watch). It explains how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use our services, including app features such as mood check-ins, wellbeing analytics, notifications, and integrations with Apple HealthKit.

Ascenda One Pty Ltd ("Ascenda", "we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains how we handle your information in accordance with:

  • The Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)
  • The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India)
  • Law No. 25.326 on Protection of Personal Data (Argentina)

1. What Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information, depending on your use of the app and website:

  • Account and authentication data (if you sign in)
  • Mood check-ins, wellbeing entries, and related metadata
  • Health and wellness data from Apple HealthKit (if you grant permission)
  • App and website usage analytics used for product improvement

  • To support syncing and backup of your wellbeing data (if enabled)

3. Lawful Basis for Processing

  • Australia: We collect data under APP 3 where reasonably necessary for our business functions.
  • India: We rely on your affirmative consent as per Section 5 of the DPDP Act.
  • Argentina: We act as a data controller under Article 1 of Law 25.326 and process data lawfully and transparently.

4. Who We Share It With

We do not sell or rent your information. We may share data with trusted service providers who help us operate the app and website, such as:

  • Cloud hosting and backend infrastructure providers
  • Analytics providers, including PostHog for anonymous usage analytics
  • Authentication providers used to support account access where enabled
  • Communication and notification service providers
  • Customer communication providers, including ActiveCampaign

We store your data securely using encryption and best-practice security protocols. Only authorised personnel can access your data.

We retain your app and website data only as long as necessary to provide our services, maintain required records, resolve disputes, or comply with legal obligations. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at privacy@ascenda.one.

Your information may be processed in countries including Australia, India, or the United States. In such cases, we ensure compliance with the relevant local laws and apply safeguards like contractual clauses or service provider agreements.

We work with service providers to manage website functionality, mobile app infrastructure, analytics, communications, authentication, and notifications. These providers are required to protect your data, use it only for agreed purposes, and handle any health or wellness information in line with applicable law and platform requirements.

9. Consent and Controls

By using the app or submitting your information through the website, you consent to our use of your information as described in this policy where consent is the lawful basis for processing.

You can withdraw consent for HealthKit data access at any time in the Apple Health app or your device settings. You can also manage communication preferences through unsubscribe links where available, and you may request deletion of your app data by contacting us at privacy@ascenda.one.

10. Health Data and Apple HealthKit

Ascenda may request permission to read certain health and wellness data from Apple HealthKit, including heart rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep duration, and sleep stage information. We use this information to support wellbeing features inside the app, including personalised insights, readiness and recovery indicators, and related summaries.

Health data access is optional. We only access HealthKit data after you grant permission through Apple's permission prompt, and you can revoke access at any time in the Apple Health app or your device settings.

Ascenda reads HealthKit data on a read-only basis. We do not write data to Apple Health.

Raw HealthKit data is processed on your device to power app features. If you have separately consented to sharing data within Ascenda, we may transmit derived summaries or aggregated metrics generated from that data to our servers to support app functionality, analyse your wellbeing experience, and provide personalised content.

We do not use HealthKit data, or data derived from HealthKit, for advertising, marketing profiling, or sale to third parties. We do not disclose HealthKit data to third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. We do not sell HealthKit data.

If you withdraw HealthKit permissions, Ascenda will stop collecting new HealthKit data from your device. Previously generated app records or derived summaries already stored in Ascenda will continue to be handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy unless you request deletion where applicable.
